SIGMATECH

Working Principle of SIGMATECH Active Lightning Rods

SIGMATECH active lightning rods operate using one of two separate systems, depending on the selected model. Each system is designed to generate a high-voltage ionization field that helps attract and safely ground lightning strikes.

1. Electrostatic System (ESE-PDA)

When atmospheric conditions indicate the possibility of a lightning strike (such as a sudden change in electric field), the electrostatic ion generator inside the lightning rod is activated.

  • The system generates a voltage of 7.5 kV (kilovolts).

  • This high voltage causes ionization of the surrounding air.

  • The ionized air forms a conductive path for the lightning to follow.

  • The protection radius (the area covered) depends on the product’s design and the intensity of ionization.

2. Mechanical System (ESE-PDC)

This system uses a mechanical method to enhance air ionization.

  • When atmospheric conditions change, a multi-layer mechanical structure inside the unit accelerates the air through narrow sections.

  • This increased airspeed energizes particles, creating a charge buildup.

  • The movement of particles increases the voltage up to 7.5 kV, which leads to air ionization.

  • Just like the electrostatic system, the design of the lightning rod defines the ionized area and protection zone.

SIGMATECH

Working Principle of SIGMATECH DX 250 (DISTRICTX) Active Lightning Rod

The SIGMATECH DX 250 active lightning rod operates based on one of two advanced systems, depending on customer preference. Both systems are designed to detect atmospheric changes and initiate early ionization, guiding lightning safely to the ground.

1. Electrostatic System (ESE-PDA)

When the atmosphere shows signs of a possible lightning strike (such as a rapid increase in the electric field), the electrostatic ion generator inside the lightning rod is activated.

  • The system generates a voltage of 7.5 kV (kilovolts).

  • This high voltage causes ionization of the air around the rod, creating a conductive path for the lightning.

  • The protection area (ionized coverage zone) depends on the design of the lightning rod.

2. Mechanical System (ESE-PDC)

In this version, lightning detection and ionization are achieved through a multi-layer mechanical system.

  • When conditions change, the system accelerates airflow using narrow air channels inside the unit.

  • This movement charges particles, increasing voltage up to 7.5 kV, triggering ionization.

  • Ionization first occurs inside the rod and then extends to the surrounding air.

  • As in the electrostatic model, the ionized area and protection range are determined by the product’s design.
